The Latest

Festival Summer 2008 in Europe

This July will see Joe returning to two of the most prestigious European Jazz Festivals on the calendar. JazzBaltica have invited him back to Northern Germany with his celebrated "Sticks and Strings" Quartet (featuring Jay Anderson, Joe La Barbera and Jonathan Kreisberg) for a double bill concert with Ornette Coleman on July 6th.

Afterwards, Joe will connect with his new exciting band "Force of Four" (featuring Robert Rodriguez, Johnathan Blake and Ricardo Rodriguez) for a short stop-over at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, before moving on to Perugia, Italy, for a two week residency at Umbria Jazz Festival from July 11-20.

Looking back: Moutin/Locke/Moutin performances

To celebrate the ten year anniversary of the Moutin Brothers Quartet, Louis and François Moutin invited a select few long time collaborators as guest musicians to their Reunion concert in Paris last Friday. Joe was honoured to be asked to join them on stage for this occasion, and to perform as a special guest, along with pianist Martial Solal and vocalist Elisabeth Kontomanou at La Cigale.

To round up this short trip to France - his first in 11 years - Joe, Louis and François came to Dunkerque Jazz Club on Saturday night for an energetic trio concert in front of an ecstatic crowd.

Trio Da Paz & Joe Locke: live videos

In time for the new MAXJAZZ release, "Live at JazzBaltica" – in stores now – we have published three live videos from the very same concert. Recorded by 3sat on July 1st, 2007 in Salzau (Northern Germany) and broadcast last October on German television, these excerpts provide a unique insight into the captivating musical synergy that these four musicians are sharing on stage.

MAXJAZZ have just released a celebrated concert performance, that had audiences on their feet, the German Jazz critics raving (Jazzthetik's "Concerts of the Year") and the four musicians at their soul inspiring best. Romero Lubambo, Nilson Matta, Duduka Da Fonseca and Joe Locke were the closing act of last year's JazzBaltica Festival, creating the prefect climax of the 2007 event.
